Light The World – Annual Christmas Initiative
Light the World is an annual Christmas initiative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It invites people everywhere to share, lift and serve others in small and simple ways, especially during the Christmas holiday season. For the first time we are placing machines in three cities in the UK.
It works by local and global nonprofit organizations identifying goods and services essential to those they assist. The Giving Machine displays cards representing each item. Individuals and families select and purchase the items they wish to donate. 100% of every donation is given to the participating charities to fulfill the donor’s purchase. Charities may use up to 10% for organizational overhead expenses. Gratefully, most use far less or nothing at all. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all Initiative operational costs.
The event launches on Friday 15 November at the Touchwood Shopping Centre, B91 3GJ in Solihull and will be there for two weeks.
From 2017 to 2023, the Giving Machines have had:
•2.2 million visitors
•£25 million donated
•£24 million earned through media
•150 million social media engagements
•450+ nonprofit partners
